Thomas E. O'Shaughnessy

Versailles, KY Long time Versailles Attorney and Judge, Thomas E. OShaughnessy dies at age 91 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky on November 17, 2017. He formerly resided in his home and law office located at 215 Rose Hill for over 40 years. He remained active in his law practice until the age of 84. He was born on August 27, 1926 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Edwin P. OShaughnessy and Maryon J. Sampson OShaughnessy. He graduated from high school in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. Prior to entering the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, he attended the University of Michigan, and after his service he completed his undergraduate work and received his LLB (J.D.) degree from University of Louisville. He served as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation under J. Edgar Hoover in the Philadelphia, Boston and New York field offices. In August of 1956 a law partnership was formed with the late Marshall A. Dawson of Versailles, Kentucky. Mr. OShaughnessy was best known for his skills as a criminal defense attorney and handled many high profile cases including a number of murder defenses of which he never had a client convicted of that crime. He served as Versailles Police Judge for 5 years and as 14th Judicial Circuit Commissioner for 8 years. He was a member of several legal associations including the Kentucky, Woodford, Fayette and Louisville Bar Associations and the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Lexington and Louisville of which he held many offices. He was also a member of the Woodford Historical Society, American Legion Post No. 67, Versailles, Kentucky, Kentucky Civil War Round Table, Filson Club, The University Club, The Lexington Tennis Club and The United States Tennis Association. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a daughter, Julia A. OShaughnessy; a son, Thomas E. OShaughnessy, II; grandson, Thomas Toland Lacy; his sister, Marilyn Pater; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Linda C. Kraft. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and administration of Thomson-Hood Veterans Center and will be forever grateful for their loving care. Funeral Information A memorial service is planned at Pisgah Presbyterian Church to be held on November 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a private family graveside service in Pisgah Cemetery.
