Vernon D. Raisor

Vernon D. Raisor, 87, Nicholasville passed away on Monday March 18th, 2019. Vernon was born the second to nine siblings in Henry County, KY on July 15th 1931 to the late Lorenzo and Ollie Raisor. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Raisor, Nicholasville and daughters Wanda Knight (Dexter), Nicholasville, Linda Sue Robinson (Randy) Jamestown, OH. Sandy Hollar, Louisville, and son Dave Raisor (Lisa) Tallahassee, FL. Grandchildren include Derek Knight (Beth) and Dalton Knight of Nicholasville, Brandon Raisor, Versailles, Kim Leet (Chris), Shelbyville, Christopher Raisor (Anna), Tallahassee, FL, Drew Robinson (Heather), Jake Robinson (Amanda), Aaron Robinson of Jamestown, OH, Alec Fern, and Kelly Wellar, Louisville. Great grandchildren include, Annabell, Jake, Nash, Ryan, Jake, Paisley, and Welker. Preceded in death by his late wife, Ethyl Raisor; Siblings, Baby brother John Raisor and twins Bobby and Dotsey Raisor, Linda Sue Raisor and Curtie Raisor. Surviving siblings include Willanna Finney, Lockport, Betty Sue Brewer (Gary), Pleasurville, Prentice “Bud” Raisor (Donna), Eminence. Vernon grew up with his siblings on a farm in Henry County, Kentucky. Farming was a way of life for the entire family. Vernon’s family knew hard work in the tobacco fields and barns as well as tending to dairy cows and other livestock. Vernon began driving a truck at age 14 to take tobacco to market. He was the second oldest child, so with his father’s declining health many of the responsibilities of providing for the family fell to him. After growing up on the farm, he was an over-the-road truck driver for several years working for several trucking companies. Vernon also helped farm corn and soybeans on farms in the southcentral area of Ohio near Jamestown. He loved all things Bluegrass Music as well as anything John Deere green. Vernon loved all his family as well as his beloved Kentucky Wildcats basketball, both Men and Women’s teams. You could always find Vernon by the television watching them play and be ready for a lively conversation about the game afterwards, whether they won or lost that day. Those that knew and loved him will miss his ability to make us laugh, no matter what the circumstances. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Clark Legacy Center (601 E. Brannon Rd.) on Wednesday March 20th, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 21st at 10:00 at the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Piatt presiding. Burial will be at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, 4915 Harrodsburg Road, Nicholasville. In Lieu of flowers, you may contribute in Vernon Raisor’s name to the American Diabetes Association or to the National Federation of the Blind.
