Daniel Irvin Thomas

Jul 24, 1963 — Sep 27, 2026

Daniel Irvin "Danny" Thomas Jr. 63 of Midway, KY passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, September 27th, 2026.

Danny was born July 24th, 1963 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late Daniel Irvin Thomas Sr. and Marilyn Ann Kercher Thomas. He was one of nine children and the seventh to be born.

He was raised Roman Catholic; his family moved to Pikeville, and he attended St. Francis Church every Sunday. He attended Pikeville High School, played football all four years, and graduated in 1982. He attended WKU, where he went on to play football for a year and a half before leaving college to pursue other ambitions. Over the years, Danny decided to get his CDL license and became a commercial truck driver. He found his passion in driving and traveling all across the U.S. and stayed in the field for over 20 years.

Danny had a love of history and trivia, as well as music, old western films, and boating. He was a friend to many and was someone who was always excited to crack a joke or tell you a story. His loss is felt heavily by the people who had the privilege of knowing him.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gene Borland. He is survived by his daughter Samantha Thomas, his son Zach Compton, and his siblings, Jim Thomas (Kim), Nancy Walker (Terry), Susan Borland, Mary Bienek (Vince), Cathy Brown (Paul David), Peggy Draughn, Jeanne Kreutzer (Scott), Rob Thomas (Leslie), and many nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 9th, 2026 at St. Leo's Church at 10am with mass and service following at 11am. Lunch will be served in the Church Hall immediately afterward; all are welcome. Services location: St. Leo Catholic Church, 295 Huntertown Road, Versailles, KY 40383
