Dale Richard Goldsmith

Sep 3, 1937 — Jun 10, 2026

Dale Richard Goldsmith, 88, of Newberg, Oregon died on June 10, 2026 of age related illness. He passed peacefully in bed, surrounded by children and grandchildren.

Dale was born in Harlem, Montana, to Victor and Ruth Goldsmith on September 3, 1937. He grew up there as the second of 4 brothers: Daniel, Dale, Dennis, and Douglas. When he graduated high school, he chose to attend Cascade College in Portland, Oregon where he met Corrine Schenkenberger on his first day in town. He loved to tell their story, how his new roommate offered to show him around, and his roommate’s girlfriend invited her cousin to make it a foursome. They went to the beach where Dale saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time, and also fell in love for the first and last time. He wrote to his mother that he’d met the woman he was going to marry, and he was right. They married in 1957 and were together until her passing in 2015.

Upon graduating with a degree in Psychology, he attended Western Evangelical Seminary, with the intention of serving as a member of the clergy, but was led to teach instead, which he did for several years in a variety of places, including Bandon and Canby, Oregon. After teaching high school english for several years, he switched careers to Real Estate development and sales, selling homes in the northern Willamette valley for 25+ years. After that, in the mid 1990’s his lifelong love of cars drove him to open an independent Volvo repair and sales shop in Newberg, Oregon, which he operated until his retirement in 2015. He continued to dabble in car repair and restoration well into his 80’s.

He was active in church and in his strong Christian faith, and he sang with the Christian men’s choir The Salem Singers for almost 20 years. In the late 1960s he began attending Calvary Mennonite Church in Aurora, Oregon, raising his family there and continuing his attendance for the rest of his life on earth.

Dale and Corrine had 5 children: Laura, Teresa, David, Rebecca and Christopher, and 4 Grandchildren: Jacob, Hali, Benjamin and Safia.

He is survived by all 3 of his brothers and 3 of his children, Teresa, Rebecca, and Christopher, and his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by Corrine in 2015 and two of his children, Laura in 2010 and David in 2022.

Memorial services will be held on September 4, 2026, at Living Stone Bible Church (formerly Calvary Mennonite) at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow.
