David J. Rankin
Dec 13, 1961 — Aug 6, 2026
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of David Rankin’s passing. David left this world unexpectedly from a medical event on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the age of 64. Family meant everything to him, and it showed in every part of how he lived. Those closest to him are still coming to terms with a loss this sudden.
David was born December 13, 1961, in Oregon City, Oregon, the only boy growing up among his sisters. Much of that sense of family took root with his grandparents, Jessie and John Roll. Sunday dinners with the whole family gathered around the kitchen table, catching up, playing guitars and singing, while the kids played outside, were a tradition that shaped him. David always made sure his family came together to celebrate, values he carried with him throughout his life. David had a knack for solving problems and was relied upon by family, friends, and workmates to figure things out (he always did). He spent 30 plus years as a planner at Tektronix Industries before bringing that same dedication and commitment to Ascentec Engineering.
David’s daughter, Caitlin, was the center of his universe and he loved her fiancé, Justin Humphreys, as if he were his own. He shared his life with his partner, Kim Cappo, and together they loved gardening and opening their home to family, hosting gatherings that brought everyone together. He loved shooting pool, camping trips, and getaways to the coast. David had a special place in is heart for the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas, cherished time with family, and enjoyed baking. His delicious creations were even shared on a local TV show. He always had a pot of coffee brewing and a cup of coffee in his hand. David was never too busy to lend a hand to anyone who needed him. He was, simply put, a shining light who touched more lives than he probably ever realized.
David is survived by his daughter, Caitlin Rankin, and her fiancé, Justin Humphreys; his partner, Kim Cappo; his sisters, Tammy Rankin, Shelly Rankin, Raquel Miley, Stacey Keetell and her husband Theo, Zane Bail, and Zandra Bail-LaLonde and her husband Rick LaLonde; his aunt and uncle, Gayle and Rick Cole, and his uncle, Ron Mellott; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends who were family in every way. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Janet Adams; his father, Darol Bail; his grandparents, Jessie and John Roll; his aunts, Dellene Seitz and Sharon Mellott and uncle Gene Seitz, and brother-in-law Don Dass.
We would give anything for one more conversation, one more laugh, one more hug, or one more piece of his advice. David, your light will always be a part of us. We love you, always and forever.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on September 20th at 1:30 p.m. at the Oregon City Elks Lodge.
