Steven Dennis Kolb

Mar 12, 1946 — Jul 5, 2026

Steven Dennis Kolb was a third generation Oregonian; the third child of five born to Karl Kolb and Elnora Worthington. Born in Portland, Oregon on March 12, 1946, he spent most of his formative years in the Southeast part of the city where he attended and graduated from Richmond Grade School in 1960, Franklin High School in 1964, and Portland State University in 1969.

While growing up in Portland, he made an acquaintance with a neighborhood cutie, Kathy McNerney, who would become his high school sweetheart, his wife in 1967, and the love of his life. Steve and Kathy would have 3 daughters, Dawn (Mark) Bennett, Colleen Evans and Nancy (Bart) Maltby. Most of their lives together were enjoyed in Gladstone and Oregon City, Oregon.

Steve spent most of his career in financial management and later owned his own company for 22 years before retiring in 2006. An avid Oregon State fan, Steve enjoyed playing and watching all sports from football to basketball to baseball to golf. He also was a season ticket holder to Portland State football for many years. He loved music and had a large collection of oldies songs. If you wanted to know anything about a song or an artist, he was your man. While living in Gladstone, he was one of the founding members of the Gladstone Softball Assn. and was on the Chautauqua Committee for many years.

In 2014, Kathy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Steve eventually moved to Vancouver with his new life partner Jeni Schlueter. Besides Jeni, he is survived by his children, his brother Larry (Carolyn) and sisters Karen Rudin and Janet (Don) Lorenz. Known as Grumpy Grandpa, he is also survived by grandchildren Andy (Erika) Evans, Erika Evans, Allison (Exie) Evans, and Taylor (Rachel) Bennett. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Peyton, Reese, Jase, Grayson, Charlotte, Reid, King, Kane, and Kaia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and the best brother ever, Kevin.

For remembrances, Steve’s favorite charities were St. Jude’s and Shriners Children’s Hospitals, the Humane Society, and The Salvation Army.
