Cindy Kay Gilnick, 74, of Puyallup, Washington, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on August 18, 2026. She was born on December 16, 1951, in Tacoma, Washington, to Kent Houghton and Irene “Chris” Saunders.
Cindy built a long and respected career with the Franciscan Medical Group, retiring as the Director of Business Office Operations. She was known for her kindness, loyalty, and the steady leadership she brought to her work and her life.
Outside of her career, Cindy found joy in quilting, knitting, gardening, traveling, camping, and spending time with her family. She adored her beloved dogs, cherished Happy Hour gatherings with family and friends, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. As a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church, she lived her faith through service and generosity.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Chuck Gilnick; her children Paula Roberts (Mike) and Kristi Kristoff; her stepchildren Renee Bauer (Brent) and Heather Gilnick; nine grandchildren; and three great‑grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Vicky Breiting, Terry Wallace, Lori Wicks, Keith Houghton, Scott Houghton, and Shelley Saunders.
She was preceded in death by her father Kent Houghton, her mother Irene “Chris” Saunders, her stepfather Charles “Speck” Saunders, her brother Bruce Houghton, and her stepbrother Greg Saunders.
A celebration of Cindy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 5118 44th Ave. E, Tacoma, WA 98443.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cindy’s memory may be made to MultiCare Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
