Dorothy Jane Hoyt

Oct 12, 1942 — Feb 25, 2026

Dorothy Jane (Sonsteng) Hoyt of Puyallup, Washington, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, in Tacoma, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born on October 12, 1942, in Glasgow, Montana, to Walter and Margaret Sonsteng. She was one of six children and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She graduated from Glasgow High School in 1960. Soon after, she met David Hoyt, whom she married on May 15, 1965, in Glasgow.

In 1966, David and Dorothy moved to Puyallup, Washington, and began their life and family together. They welcomed four children into this world. Raising her children was Dorothy’s passion and purpose. She fiercely loved, protected, and cared for them. Their well-being was always at the forefront of her mind. She loved them unconditionally.

Over the years, Dorothy cherished spending time with her growing family. She loved to draw, especially with her grandkids. She enjoyed long walks and was a fierce competitor at the game of Yahtzee. She was always willing to sit down and enjoy an ice-cold Pepsi with you, or better yet, a milkshake.

Dorothy will be remembered most for her love and kindness toward others. She had a strong faith and was unapologetically dedicated to her children.

She is survived by her former husband, David Hoyt; her children, Dale (Danielle) Hoyt, Debbie (Jared) Konkle, Deanna Hoyt, and Dan (Karrie) Hoyt; her grandchildren, Tyce (Emily) Konkle and Brayden Konkle, Shawn (Ricki) Hoyt, Megan (Ryan) Jobe, and Lila and Leo Hoyt; her great-grandchildren, Landon, Emma, and Owen Jobe; and her siblings, Donald Sonsteng (Cyndie), Ronald Sonsteng (Kandy), Debbie Rossberg (Rich), and Mary Matherne (Johnnie). She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Margaret Sonsteng; and her brother, Richard Sonsteng (Jean).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Pierce County, in honor of Dorothy’s life.

Dorothy will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her. May we keep her close to our hearts, smiling at the memories she gave us and the love she shared so freely, perhaps as we crack open a cold Pepsi or sip a milkshake in her honor.
