Listen to Obituary

Floyd Waldemar Foess, 87, of Federal Way, Washington, passed away peacefully the evening of June 24, 2026.

Floyd was born April 23, 1939, in Vassar, MI, to Waldemar and Lottie (Galsterer) Foess. The oldest of four, he is survived by brother John and sisters Marie Specht and Marilyn Nickodemus, as well as wife Lois (Braun), children Jennifer (m. Jeff Scott) and Kalen (m. Carla Simoni), and grandchildren Rachael and Jacob Scott, and Terrence Foess.

Floyd attended St. Michael’s Lutheran School in Richville, MI through eighth grade. In high school, he was active in FFA, band, chess, and the Jets, graduating valedictorian from Vassar High in 1957. He graduated the University of Michigan, College of Engineering, BSEE, in 1962. He then traveled across the country to Federal Way, Washington to work for the Boeing company as an engineer, where he retired in 1994.

He loved gardening and woodworking, building chancel furnishings for several churches, furniture, toys, and decorative pieces. He planted a huge garden, and after retiring, donated plants, produce, and flowers yearly to several local food banks, churches, and senior centers. Anyone who stopped by was given a tour of the garden and sent on their way with armloads of produce. He could always be found either in the garden or the wood shop, staticky classical music playing on his little radio.

A memorial service will be held 9/17/2026 1:30 pm, at St Luke’s Lutheran Church, 515 S. 312th St, Federal Way, WA.

Memorial donations may be made to your local food bank or to Classical King FM 98.1
