Joseph Patrick Ostle

Jul 29, 1951 — Feb 24, 2026

Love is love, fun is fun, but isn’t it quiet when the goldfish dies?

Joseph Patrick Ostle was born in Oakland, CA on July 29, 1951, the only child of Joseph and Anne Ostle.

He attended Catholic schools, graduating from St Elizabeth High School in 1969, after which he joined the Air Force where he served for 20 years. While in the military he earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Troy State University. Some of his early memories were of listening to the Oakland A’s during class and getting in trouble with the nuns. He would often catch a bus that his Dad drove to the stadium for games and would sneak down to the better seats to watch his team. He met his wife Lydia in Big Spring, TX. They were married on April 21st, 1973. They had 4 daughters, Mona, Paula, Katrina and Angela. His proudest moment was becoming Papa Joe to his 4 grandchildren, Hunter, Gavin, Mason, and Eden. He loved spending time with them, joking around and playing games. His favorite saying to them was “Love is love, fun is fun, but isn’t it quiet when the goldfish dies”. Every person he met, it was his goal to make them smile, which he accomplished through his silly jokes and dad-isms.

Joe passed away on February 24th, 2026 after being cared for by his 4 daughters. We will always remember his birthday raps and his love for the Mariners and the Seachickens.

He is survived by daughters Mona Sullivan (Jason), Paula Ostle (David), Katrina Ostle, and Angela Ostle (Amanda); grandsons Hunter, Gavin and Mason; and granddaughter Eden.

Funeral Services will be held at St Andrew Catholic Church in Sumner, WA at 11am on March 13, with an hour of viewing immediately prior.  A committal service with Military Honors will take place on March 17th at 11am, at which he will be laid to rest with his wife, Lydia, at Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, WA.
