Rodney "Rusty" B. McEachern
Rodney “Rusty” B. McEachern, 79, of Sumner, Washington, passed away in August 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in February 1947, in Seattle, Washington, to Irene and Dave McEachern.
Rusty graduated from Sumner High School and spent most of his life in the community he loved, raising his family at Lake Tapps. He proudly served eight years in the United States Navy before beginning a long career as a computer maintenance technician and eventually retiring from Boeing. True to his hardworking nature, retirement never really meant retirement for Rusty. He continued ‘helping’ Donna in the daycare and running McEachern Tax Service from home—a testament to his belief that there was always something worth doing and another goal worth pursuing.
In 1970, Rusty married the love of his life, Donna. For 56 years, they built a beautiful life together centered around family, friendship, adventure, and travel. They were always looking ahead to something—working toward it together. They loved walking and hiking, traveling, and simply spending time with the people they loved.
Rusty was playful, hardworking, generous, tender hearted, stubborn, and full of life. He was a man who showed up for his people. Long before “side hustles” became popular, Rusty always had one. He took great pride in providing a good life for his family and was happiest when he could be useful, lend a hand, or help someone else.
He loved sports and was an enthusiastic fan of his teams. His voice could always be heard from the stands, cheering loudly and proudly. He also loved games of every kind—from card games and board games to football in the lake. He coached his daughters in softball and created countless memories through the years that his family will carry with them forever.
Above all, Rusty loved his family. He was immensely proud of his daughters & grandchildren, and the lives they were building. He cherished his role as Grandpa and was especially excited to welcome his first great-grandchild, a baby girl being welcomed by his granddaughter Megan and her husband, Maxx.
Rusty had a quiet and steady faith. He didn’t need to be the center of attention to make an impact. He served others, helped whenever he could, and lived out his faith through the way he cared for people.
Rusty is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Donna; his daughters, Sherri and Carrie; his son-in-law, Sean; his grandchildren, Megan and her husband, Maxx, and Cooper; and his first great-grandchild, who is on the way. He is also survived by his brother and sister, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Carl and Dave McEachern.
Rusty lived a full life—one filled with hard work, laughter, adventure, games, cheering from the sidelines, helping others, and loving his people well. His family will miss his voice, his humor, his stubborn determination, and his unwavering presence. Most of all, they will miss simply having him there.
A celebration of Rusty’s life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Faith Covenant Church in Sumner, Washington. Family and friends are invited to come together to remember, celebrate, and honor a life so deeply loved.
