Richard returned to his Lord and savior on November 23, 2015. Ricky was born on February 4, 1961, in Fairbanks, AK. His father, Richard L. Helms preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Joanne Helms Famiano (Tony), as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Richard served in the US Air Force for seven plus years. He graduated from DeVry University with a bachelor's degree in I.T., a field in which he worked for many years. Richard loved to fish and spent many hours doing so. He was also an excellent bowler and bowled several 300 games. Ricky also loved playing golf and was an outstanding golfer. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution in honor of Ricky to either the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, 6439 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209 or to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Ln, Columbia, SC 29210. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor James D. Lee officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road.
