WEST COLUMBIA—A memorial service for Ruth M. Hill, 66, of West Columbia, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Pastor John Sellers will officiate. Mrs. Hill, beloved wife of 47 years to Thomas Allen Hill, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014. Born in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur Claude Stone and Marie Ferrell Stone. She was a loving stay-at-home mom then became a teaching assistant. She then decided to attend college to become a teacher, where at USC she completed her 4-yr bachelor's degree in 2.5 years with Cum Laude honors in 1981. She taught the 2nd grade for 13 years. Surviving in addition to her husband, Thomas Allen Hill, of West Columbia; daughters, Risha Lyn Cole (James) of West Columbia and Elizabeth Ashley Shull (Shane) of Aiken; son, Michael Darren Hill (Sally) of West Columbia; grandchildren, September Bremer (Mike), Chelsey Cole, Leslie Hill, and Megan Hill; great-grandchildren, Madison, Ashlyn Grace, Christopher, Aidan, and Tobin; sister, Linda Baxley (Andy) of N. Augusta. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Vernelle Gavalas and Mary Ann Long. Memorials may be made in Ruth's honor to the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Ste. 301, Cayce, SC 29033 or the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
