Evelyn "Evie" F Wieting
June 16th, 1928 - December 20th, 2014
Evelyn F. "Evie" Wieting, age 86, of Brillion, died on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Brillion West Haven in Brillion. She was born June 16, 1928 in Almond, WI, daughter of the late Henry & Tressie (Martin) Walter. Evie graduated from UW Oshkosh with a degree in education; an education put to great use in a one room school house northwest of Brillion. It was here that she met her husband, Merlin A. Wieting, Sr., who had filled in as Santa Claus one year and visited this school house. They were married on May 15, 1948 at the Baptist Church of Almond and worked side by side throughout life. Although Evie stopped educating children in the classroom, she continued to teach everyone with whom she had contact about life and love. She was a member of Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Potter where she also taught Sunday School and worked as the Sunday School Superintendent for 22 years, volunteered with the Women's Guild and graciously served as the Prayer Chain Coordinator. She had also belonged to the Calumet County Business and Professional Women's Association and served on the New Hope Board of Directors. Evie was known well for her expansive plate collection, and her mastery in the kitchen cooking and baking the most delicious homemade meals and pies. In her free time, she put together jigsaw puzzles, and dug deep into the Scriptures. Evie was also a rummage sale aficionado who traveled throughout the countryside with her close women friends looking for treasures which she could bestow upon those she loved. Of the many gifts and talents that Evie received from God, her gift of hospitality was foremost in her life. She especially loved Christmas Eve, when friends and family would gather in her home to sing Christmas carols and enjoy her delicious Christmas treats. She lived her life as a Proverbs 31 Woman, always caring for those around her and working as the hands and feet of Christ with just a touch of attitude. She is survived by her children: Wanda (Rodger) Mello of Savannah, TN, Bud (Barb) Wieting of Chilton, Fuzzy (Kathy) Wieting of Brillion, Marla (Ron) Michaelis of Jefferson, WI; an AFS daughter: Silena (Jorge) Alvarado Barahona of Costa Rica; 18 grandchildren: Holly (James) Howard, Sierra Mello, Chad (Samantha) Mello, Brent Mello, Deb (Mark) Gehrke, Denise Dietz & Special Friend Mike Hynek, Deann (Josh) Kelley, Daniel (Jamie) Wieting, Karissa Wieting, Matthew Wieting, Joshua (Kayla) Wieting, Sarah Miller, Alex Schneider, Ellyse (Charlie) Jacobs, Christine (Tim) Nobling, David (Carmen) Michaelis, Ariel Barahona, and Raquel Barahona; 21 great grandchildren; a brother: Henry "Joe" (Mary) Walter of Kaukauna; a sister: Avaniel "Abbie" (Fritz) Jannette of Chilton; and a special niece: Holly (Felix) Martinez of Florida and her entire family. She is further survived by her church family, other relatives, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant child; 4 sisters: Eva, Marie, Melva & Henrietta; and a brother: Gordon Walter. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Potter with the Rev. Dr. Marc Axelrod officiating. Burial will be in the Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 and on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. A memorial fund in the name of Evelyn F. Wieting has been established for the Calumet Medical Center and the New Hope Center in Chilton.
