Frederick C. Sherman, 69, of Fort Plain died peacefully at his home on November 16, 2014. Born in Manhattan, NY on May 18, 1945, he is the son of the late William T. and Virginia E. Drerup Sherman. As a teenager, Fred was a drummer in the band the Rip Tides. In 1964, he graduated from Saunders Technical Trade School in Yonkers, NY. He was enlisted into the United States Air Force and Honorably Discharged. Over the years, he worked for several electrical contractors in Westchester County. He was an Auxiliary Sergeant in the Pelham Height's Police Department and worked as a Hi-Profile Armed Security Guard for Burns Security Agency. After leaving Burns, he went to work for the Westchester County DEF where he worked for 20+ years until he retired. Fred enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and was long time member of the Southern NY Fish & Game Assoc. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He belonged to the American Legion and the Mohawk Valley Country Club. He was also proud to have once been a part of the 64th Regiment of Foot Reenactment Group for many years. Fred married Rebecca Zaccagnino on May 2, 1969. They moved to the Fort Plain area in 1985, together they raised their family of two daughters, Lori-Ann Catherine Orcutt (Timothy) of Olympia, WA and Virginia Fuhs (Jack) of Fort Plain, NY and son William T. Sherman II of Clermont, FL. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren Kenneth Fuhs II, Derek Fuhs, Elizabeth Orcutt, Jacob Fuhs, Matthew Orcutt, Andra Fuhs, Cris-John Fuhs and great-grand daughters Laiken and Kendra Fuhs. He is also survived by his brother William H. Sherman of Howell, NJ. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother John G. Sherman and a son-in-law Kenneth Fuhs. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday evening, from 4pm until 7pm at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home 69 Otsego Street , Canajoharie NY 13317. A funeral will be held on Friday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Dingman. Burial will follow at Freysbush Cemetery. Please visit the family's online guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com.
