Richard A. Lais
August 17th, 1943 - July 16th, 2013
Richard A. Lais, 69, of Fort Hunter passed away peacefully at his home on July 16, 2013. His loving family was by his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 17, 1943, he is the son of the late Harry F. Lais and Ruth M. Calhoun Lais. Dick is a life time resident of the area and a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1961 until he was honorably discharged in 1965. Dick owned his own construction company and he most recently was employed by Lexington Center in Gloversville as the Director of Purchasing for 29 years. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years along with being out doors and building. He also liked to read and spend time with his family and friends. He is a former member of the Glen Reformed Church, the Fulton County Rotary Club, a past member of the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce and was a Boy Scout Leader for many years. Dick also was a life time member of the Fort Hunter Engine and Hose Company and was a member at the St. Patrick's Masons Lodge in Johnstown. His loving family includes, his wife Sandy Waite Lais, whom he wed on September 29, 1984, a daughter Patricia M. Lais , son Michael J. Lais a stepson Richie Lia Knudsen, all of Tribes Hill, and a grand daughter Cory Lais. He is survived by his beloved mother Ruth Lais, a brother James Lais of Tribes Hill and aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and many friends. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 1pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072. Family and friends are invited to visit from 11am until 1pm before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam, St. Patrick's Masons or the Ft. Hunter Engine and Hose Co.
