October 16th, 1933 - March 5th, 2006
Mrs. Jane M. McCarthy Melita, age 72, of Gloversville, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006, at home, following a long illness. She was born October 16, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late John and Frances Smith McCarthy. A 1951 graduate of Gloversville High School, she also attended SUNY Albany. Jane was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary, and the Literacy Volunteers of Fulton County. Survivors include four children, Thomas Melita III of Gloversville, John Melita and wife Beth of Hampton, N.H., Tim Melita and wife Kim of Burlington, Vt., and Linda Johnson and husband John of Gloversville. Also surviving are her twin-brother, Jack McCarthy and wife Jacklyn of Ballston Lake; seven granddaughters; the father of her children, Thomas Melita of Portsmouth, NH; and several nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her son Daniel T. Melita in 2000, and by her sisters Audrey Avery and Joan Coakley. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 am Thursday at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Gloversville, with the Rev. Paul Butler as celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. In lieu of food and flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave; Gloversville, NY 12078.
