Robert S. Murphy

Robert S. Murphy, 83, of McQueen Road, died Monday evening at his home after a long illness. Born on May 14, 1922, in Cooperstown, New York. He was the son of the late William and Fannie Foote Murphy. He was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1939 and in 1941 graduated from Cobleskill Community College with an Associates Degree in Agriculture. Bob started the H&M Equipment Company in 1957, which he owned and operated with his family until he retired in 1983. On May 1, 1943, he married the former Katherine Verkleir. Besides his wife he is survived by; three sons, Dave Murphy and Terry Murphy of the Town of Broadalbin and Tim Murphy of the Town of Perth; two brothers, Francis Murphy of Hobesound, Florida and William Turk Murphy of the Town of Broadalbin; eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services and calling hours will be private and will be held at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob?s memory to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, 4080 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
