Joseph DePalma

Joseph Scott DePalma Sr, age 68, of West Haverstraw, NY, passed away on Saturday September 7, 2024.  Joseph was born on August 22, 1956 to Louis & Sophie (Guriero) DePalma in the Bronx, NY.  After Joseph graduated from Nyack High School in 1974, he went on to study Engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Joseph had many hobbies including playing the trumpet, cooking, pro bowling, hunting, fishing, and camping.  He also volunteered his time for 42 years with the Rockland Lake Fire Department as well as the Valley Cottage Fire Department.  He was very involved in the Elks.  He was a two time Past Exulted Ruler of Haverstraw Elks Lodge 877 and a current NYS Elks Vice President for the Hudson Valley District.  He was also a third degree knight at the Knights of Columbus of Congers.

Joseph is survived by his son; Joseph DePalma Jr & his wife Samantha of Congers, NY, his daughter Christine Schmidt & her husband Justin of Colorado Springs, CO; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his significant other Teresa Mayer, brother Augustine DePalma, several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Cynthia.

Wake services will take place at TJ McGowans Funeral Home in Garnerville on Thursday, September 12th from 5-9pm and Friday September 13th from 5-9pm.  Elk service at 7pm on September 12th. Firematic service at 7pm on September 13th. Funeral services will be on Saturday September 14th at 10am at St. Paul’s Church, 82 Lake Road, Congers, NY 10920.  Burial services will be immediately following at Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake, Congers, NY. 

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the Haverstraw Elks Lodge No. 877 ENF Veterans fund at 877 Ells Drive, Haverstraw, NY 10927.
