Richard Dean Hinthorne
August 25th, 1943 - November 7th, 2024
Richard Dean Hinthorne, born on August 25, 1943, in Wood River, Illinois, and raised in Bunker Hill, Illinois, passed away on November 7, 2024, at Suncoast Hospice in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the beloved husband of Gloria (Bahn) Hinthorne, with whom he shared a loving marriage since 1965.
Richard was the last surviving member of a large family, being one of ten children raised by Ernest (Pop) and Jane Hinthorne. He dedicated many years to the grocery industry before retiring from the Godfrey Post Office in 2003. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Richard’s passions included fishing, hunting, and especially cooking. One of his greatest joys in life was feeding others. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, planting a vibrant garden full of tomatoes each spring, and relaxing at his favorite place—St. Pete Beach.
He is survived by his three daughters, June Niemann, Lauren (Greg) Birk, and Julie (Chris) Quinn, along with seven grandchildren: Adam (Kara) Birk, Courtney Birk, Marc (Rachael) Birk, Danielle (Juan) Tejada-Birk, Noah (Koda) Birk, Aran Quinn, and Sean Quinn. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Ashton and Parker Birk, and Julian Tejada-Birk.
Richard passed away surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. His warmth, laughter, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
