Donald Clayton Carlson, known by many as Don, went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Buffalo, South Dakota, to Harold and Kathleen Carlson, Don’s life was one of service, faith, and dedication. A proud graduate of Sioux Falls College (now the University of Sioux Falls) in South Dakota, Don earned his bachelor's degree in History in 1961. Though his initial path was focused on ministry, Don’s visit to California sparked a passion for finance, and he transitioned into a successful career in banking, where he would make lasting contributions over the years. Don was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and he cherished every opportunity to cheer on his teams. But his true passion lay in his deep love for the Lord. Alongside his wife, Virginia, Don served faithfully with The Gideons International, a ministry close to his heart. Together, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, attending eight International Gideon Conventions and sharing in the mission of spreading God's word. Don and Ginny were also active members of Bellevue Heights Church in Sun City, AZ, where Don held various leadership roles. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Kathleen Carlson; his brother Harlan Carlson and his wife Evelyn; his twin sister Darlene Schuppan and her husband Eddie; and his brother Jerry Carlson. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 18 years, Virginia Carlson; daughters Kendra Carlson Phillips and husband Frank, Kristen Carlson, and Kabrina McLaughlin and husband Matthew; granddaughter Rhiannon Phillips; his sister-in-law Sharon Carlson, sister-in-law Marlys Nelson and brother-in-law Gordon (Valerie) Paulson, as well as many dear friends, extended family members, and members of his church family who loved him deeply. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, 10:30 a.m. at Bellevue Heights Church, 9440 W. Hutton Dr., Sun City, AZ 85351. All are welcome to join in remembering the life and legacy of this devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  The service will be streamed at www.bhcsuncity.com for those who are unable to attend.
