Iva Berce, beloved mom, Gma, Great-Gma and our Queen B, went home to be with Jesus on January 21, 2025, after a brief illness. Iva was born during the depression in Prairie Grove, Arkansas on July 26, 1933, to Frank and Imo Hegr. She was 91, she was feisty, brave, courageous, fierce, and a pillar of true strength throughout her brief ordeal. Though this is the end of Iva’s physical life on Earth, it is the beginning of a beautiful and eternal journey for her. Iva retired from Kmart and then from Walmart, however her most significant accomplishment was her four children, whom she held close at heart, proudly, and dearly. She was a loving and dedicated mother. Even amidst life’s challenges she never wavered, always showing immense love, patience, empathy and kindness to her family and others. Her legacy is one of unyielding generosity, even with little to spare, she continuously extended a helping hand to anyone in need. Iva was an avid animal lover who had a soft spot for her dog Buddy, cat Frankie and the many strays her children brought home through the years. Her favorite color was blue, she loved to crotchet, shop at Walmart, eat Taco Bell Pizza or Dominoes Extravaganzas and could watch Family Feud all day, every day. She was a believer in God and a patriot, and was excited to watch the inauguration on the day before her passing. Iva’s family tree consisted of blood ties as well as bonds formed from the heart that reached far and wide, and she was cherished by many. She will be lovingly remembered by sons Bobby and Layton Sims, daughter Kendra Black, son-in-law Robert Grafft, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, younger brother Ray Hegr, several nephews, and many others she met on her journey. She will be joyfully reunited in eternal life with her beloved sister Bernice and daughter Holly Grafft, both she missed incredibly, husband John Berce, mother and father, older brother Frank Jr, her children’s father, and many near and dear long time friends and loved ones that have patiently awaited her arrival. A Celebration of Life will be held for Iva on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. There will be a private viewing at 12:30pm, with a service at 2:00pm and a Reception to follow. All those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcomed! Exodus 23:20, “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”
