Larry Raymond Winn, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family at his home in Harrisburg. He was born on February 6, 1950, in Boone county, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Matilda (Sims) Winn. Family and friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Praise Assembly of God in Columbia, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be following services at Harrisburg Cemetery. Larry attended Sturgeon high school. He worked for the City of Columbia as a mechanic technician for 29 years. He was in Tae Kwon Do for over 53 years. Many students were taught over the years by the 9th Degree, Senior Grand Master, which there are only a handful of in the nation. He loved anything with an engine: from riding his Goldwing and T-Bucket, going to Car Shows and Steam Engine Shows, working on Hit & Miss Engines and driving the kiddie train for children at the Steam Engine Shows. He picked up wood carving and it became a hobby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Lee Winn and Matilda Izella Sims; and sisters Donna Christine Winn and Patsy Reed. He is survived by his wife, Mary Forbis. They were married on June 24, 2009, in Columbia, Mo. He had 2 daughters by his first marriage, Jeanette and Crystal. He also gained 2 bonus children, Corie Hancock and Yvonne Lamm. He was also blessed with another bonus adopted daughter, Lori Johnmeyer. Larry was more than just their father. He was their rock, their mentor, and their best friend. He was always there with unconditional love, a comforting hug, and a word of encouragement. He taught them the importance of kindness, empathy, and strength and lived those values daily. He had several grandchildren: Briana Long, Destiny Winn, Shine Blumenshine, Trystan Smith, Kaleb Russell, Thomas Hancock, Hunter Hancock, JC Hancock, Noah Hancock, Ellie Hancock; great grandchild Elijah Johnson; and many other cousins, family members, loved ones and close friends. He was honored to share his love, wisdom, and adventures with them, and they all were an important part of his life. He had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and included. Larry's selflessness and generosity inspired countless people, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. Larry was also blessed with a loving and close-knit family, and his relationships with his brothers and sisters were especially dear to him. They include brothers: Victor Winn, Allen Winn, Ronnie Winn, Donnie Winn, Gary Blakemore; sisters: Gail Lawrence, Mary Ann Quintana. Together they shared a bond that was unbreakable. They supported each other through thick and thin, and their love and loyalty for one another was unwavering. Larry's infectious spirit and boundless love touched the lives of countless individuals in his community, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness, compassion, and warmth. Through his Taekwondo teachings, he inspired generations of students, imparting valuable life skills and mentoring them to become confident, capable, and caring individuals. His generosity, humility, and unwavering support for those in need made him a beloved figure in the community. Larry's love and light have illuminated the lives of many, and his spirit has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and his legacy will continue to inspire others to live with love, kindness, and compassion. As we say goodbye to this amazing man, we take comfort in the memories we have of him, and we know that his love will continue to inspire us all. Your love will never be forgotten.
