Catherine “Cathy” Morris Mattson 1945-2025 Catherine “Cathy” Morris Mattson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, at her home in University Place, Washington, with family by her side. Born in 1945 at Tacoma General Hospital to Gerald and Lesa Winther, Cathy grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963. In 1966, she married Robert “Bob” Mattson, and together they shared 58 years of love and adventure. They enjoyed boating excursions, multiple trips to Hawaii, travel to Denmark and Sweden, and a mission trip to Africa. Their journey included serving through their churches—Christ Lutheran in Lakewood, Emmanuel Lutheran in North Tacoma, Peninsula Lutheran in Gig Harbor, and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Puyallup. Cathy dedicated much of her career to helping others. From 1982 to 1986, she worked as an Outreach Worker with the WIC Program at the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. Later, from 1988 to 1999, she contributed her talents to Frank Russell Company in International Trading Operations and Human Resources. After retiring in 1999, she devoted herself to her family and church community, spreading joy and encouragement through numerous fundraising efforts and supply drives for those in need both locally and abroad. Cathy was a loving mother to Sue Mattson Wilhelm (Rob) and Jeff Mattson. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Spencer Wilhelm (Caitlin) and Mallory Wilhelm Myers and treasured time with her great-grandchildren Alena Wilhelm, Addison Wilhelm, and Asher Myers. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Lesa Morris, in-laws Glenn and Lillian Mattson, sister-in-law Charyl Thurber Mattson, nephew Robbie Mattson, and grandson Cody Myers. She is survived by her husband Bob, brother Paul (Fran) Morris, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 8211 112th Street SW, Lakewood, WA 98498. A livestream will be available on YouTube @ChristLutheranLakewood2377. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Lutheran Scholarship Fund (www.ChristLutheranLakewood.com/Giving) or by mailing a check to the Christ Lutheran Endowment Fund in memory of Cathy Mattson to continue her legacy of faithful service and gratitude.
