In Loving Memory of Helen Genevieve Aucoin
Loading
Helen Genevieve Aucoin beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on February 1, 2025, due to complications from a fall. She was 96 years old. She was born June 14th, 1928, to George Joseph Brown (Brazauskas) and Antosis (nee Magiulis) in Detroit, Michigan.
Despite her own mother passing away when Helen was only 4 years old, Helen had an amazingly loving and nurturing mothering instinct.
Helen was a devout Roman Catholic who loved and served the Lord her entire life. She modeled the Christian life by the way she lived, and believed we are here to help people. Helen was a parishioner of: Nativity of Our Lord parish in Detroit, Saint Peter the Apostle in Harper Woods, Saint Malachy in Sterling Heights, Saint Mary’s in Littleton, CO, and finally Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Arvada. She served the church and its community in several roles, including teaching catechism, mentoring new Catholic converts, and taking communion to the housebound. She also really enjoyed Saint Joan of Arc’s senior club activities.
Helen maintained remarkable decades long friendships with her dear Nativity high school friends. She married her husband Edward on February 2nd, 1963, so they could honeymoon in Aspen, CO. They went on to have 3 children. Ed and Helen decided to leave their Detroit area roots in 1973 for Denver so they could enjoy skiing in Colorado.
Helen was very conscientious and a hard worker who loved working in the office most of her life. She was consequently promoted to lead roles in her work in an era when women didn’t typically hold jobs. She retired at 65 but eventually went back to work part-time until the age of 84.
Helen loved to sew, crochet, bake, walk, travel, do watercolor painting, and most of all spend time with her beloved husband and family. She was always upbeat, unflappable, and kind. Her humility, kindness, and gentle demeanor caused people to want to be the center of her world. Helen was also known for her loud, hearty laugh. Her joy would light up a room.
Helen is predeceased by her mother and father, her elder brother Joseph, and her one true love, Edward. She is survived by her children, Lydia, Antoinette (Wayne), and Joe (Jill) Aucoin, grandchildren Ian Klava, Diane, Catherine, and Lily Aucoin, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
