Juana (or Lala as her grandchildren lovingly called her) was born in El Salvador in 1926 as Juana Alvarado. She was the youngest child out of 8 brothers and sisters born to her parents, (names). In her youth she lived in a farm and developed a very deep care for all animals which she would carry with her throughout her life. At the age of 22 she would marry Emilio Orellana Sa with whom she had 3 kids, Nidia Haydée, Emilio Alfredo and Gloria Inés. They made a life in San Salvador and lived there until their kids were adults. In the 1970s they moved to the USA where they settled in New York and their families grew. They would have 7 grandchildren named Paulino, Emilio, Monica, Pamela, Andrea, Carlo, Brigitte and Grace. Juana enjoyed spending her time feeding her family and her cats as well as the numerous strays she cared for. Her family will always remember her special rice she made for holidays, her potato salad and her delicious enchiladas. She also enjoyed sewing dresses and outfits for her children and grandchildren when they were small. She is remembered as strong and sweet and a defender of those less fortunate. She was loved dearly by her family and she will be sorely missed. She leaves behind her daughter Nidia, son Emilio, grandchildren, Paulino, Emilio, Monica, Pamela, Andrea, Carlo, Brigitte and Grace. She is awaited in heaven by her loving husband Emilio, daughter Gloria, and all her sisters and brothers as well as parents.
To honor her memory and in lieu of flowers Juana would want an act of kindness toward an animal in need or a donation to humanize society or north shore animal league.
