Barbara Ann Sifrit
October 6th, 1938 - May 30th, 2025
Devoted Spouse, Loving Mother, caring to all and a Child of God
Barbara Ann Sifrit, née Asplund, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on May 30, 2025, at the age of 86, in Rockledge, Florida. She was born on October 6, 1938, in Long Island City, New York.
Barbara's early life was marked by both challenges and resilience; having lost her father at the tender age of five, she and her mother moved to Jersey City to reside with her grandparents. It was there, during her school days, that she crossed paths with Roger, who would later become her devoted husband. Their bond blossomed in the seventh grade, grew through shared experiences in a church youth group, and evolved into a loving partnership that would last for over six decades.
After high school, Barbara began a career in nursing, a vocation that brought her profound fulfillment. She pursued her studies in nurses training while Roger attended college nearby, and they became engaged in 1960 shortly before Roger's 2-year deployment to Germany with the Army. Upon his return, they wed on July 23, 1962, marking the beginning of a beautiful family journey. As a dedicated spouse and mother, Barbara supported Roger's military career, which necessitated frequent relocations. Their family moved across states and countries, including West Virginia, Kansas, Germany, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Hawaii, and Kentucky, each place leaving its unique imprint on their lives.
Barbara's professional life as a registered nurse was marked by various roles, including a night shift nurse at Wuesthoff Hospital, clinic manager at Kaiser Permanente in Virginia, and director of a nursing home, from which she retired in 1994. Her contributions to healthcare were not only a testament to her skill but also to her unwavering commitment to those she served.
Beyond her professional achievements, Barbara was deeply devoted to her family, actively involved in her children's lives and interests. She served as a swim team volunteer, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and a Boy Scout committee chair, ensuring her children had enriching experiences. Her nurturing spirit extended to her community through her participation in church activities, including roles as a choir member, youth group advisor, and Sunday School teacher. In her leisure time, Barbara found joy in reading novels and exploring her creative side through painting, needlepoint, and crochet. Her charming Raggedy Ann dolls, handcrafted for fundraisers, remain a fond memory for many.
After retirement, she and Roger embraced a life of adventure, traveling and sailing to many countries and all of the continents, creating cherished memories together.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Roger, her loving children: Linda, Roger, Jr., John, and Michael; along with nine cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Her legacy of love, service, and dedication to God and family will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
Her family extends their gratitude to those who have supported them during this time and invites all who knew Barbara to celebrate her extraordinary life and the many ways she touched hearts. In honoring her memory, let us carry forward her spirit of love and community.
