Barbara Anne (Boone) Ryals, daughter of Dr. Richard Franklin Boone and Erma Lee (Freeman) Boone, was born July 4, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri. She passed away in Lone Tree,Colorado, on April 13, 2025, at the age of 91. Barbara was a strong, courageous woman who put up a remarkable fight in a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease/dementia. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was known and loved by many for her cheerful demeanor, engaging personality and sharp sense of humor. She was immensely proud of her family, often telling stories of her father, a beloved doctor, and his kind approach to family medicine. She loved her mother dearly, describing her as compassionate, loving, gentle … and often concerned about Barbara’s energetic and rebellious nature growing up. She adored her brother, Richard “Dick” Winfield Boone, who was a gifted artist. Barbara met her future husband, John Upton Ryals, at Waco High School around 1949 after the family moved to Texas from Missouri. She studied for a short time at the University of Texas in Austin, before marrying and starting a family. John served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and the family traveled around the country (with stints in Germany and Italy) for many years, including stops in Florida, Alabama, Texas and California, until eventually settling in Evergreen, Colorado, where John eventually retired as a captain with United Airlines. Barbara was an avid and skilled bowler and golfer and was known for her lucky streak, being nearly unbeatable in games of chance, proving so by winning the lottery from a scratch-off lottery ticket she acquired by accident. She worked as a real estate agent in Evergreen for several years and kept up a very active social life. Barbara was a special person who was loved by anyone lucky enough to know her, and she loved fiercely right back. She will be missed dearly, but her bright, adventurous spirit, knack for storytelling, and endless library of charming southern idioms will endure. She is survived by her daughter, Debra “Debby” (Ryals) Luthye, and grandchildren, James(Jimmy) Luthye and Stephanie Luthye; her son, Lt. Col. Mark Ryals, daughter-in-law Kelli Ryals, and grandchildren, Brittani (Ryals) Tala, Jantzen Ryals, Caden Ryals, Selah Ryals and Greyson Ryals; and her daughter-in-law, Judy (Lane) Ryals, and grandchildren, Lane Ryals, Andrea“Andie” Ryals and Cole Ryals. She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Richard Franklin Boone (d: 1965, age 68); mother,Erma Lee (Freeman) Boone (d: 1991, age 87); brother Richard “Dick” Winfield Boone (d: 1990,age 65); husband, Capt. John Upton Ryals (d: 2010, age 77); son, John Richard Ryals (d: 2020,age 60); and son-in-law Carl Edward Luthye (d: 2006, age 53).
