Richard (Terry) Campbell, age 83, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away April 28, 2025 at Porter Advent Hospice in Centennial, Colorado. Born August 16, 1941 in Crestview, Florida, he was the oldest of three sons of the late Willie (Durrell) Campbell and Audrey (Pauline) Walters Campbell. After graduating from Crestview High School, he attended the University of Florida where he received a Bachelors of Mathematics and a Masters of Statistics. It was also there that he met his wife, Linda, to whom he was married for 60+ years, until his death.
Following college, Terry and Linda moved to Melbourne, Florida where Terry began his career in the aerospace industry as a mathematician and software engineer. His career in the space industry would span 30 years across multiple states (Florida, California, Colorado, among shorter stints in others), and included projects for various space missions and shuttle launches for Pratt & Whitney, Martin Marietta, and Lockheed Martin, at locations such as Cape Canaveral in Florida and Vandenberg AFB in Lompoc, California. He transitioned to the telecommunications industry in 1993, and retired from MCI WorldCom in 2002 with the birth of his first grandchild.
Terry loved the outdoors and enjoyed growing up fishing in northwest Florida, and camping when living in California. For 8 years, he served as Assistant Scoutmaster for the boy scout troop in Orcutt, California while he and Linda raised their children there, and made great memories from stories of leading 15 teenage boys on many adventures through the California wilderness. Terry was an entertaining story teller and a living testament that laughter is one of life's greatest gifts. Terry and Linda enjoyed travelling together and counted trips to Scotland and Germany as some of their favorites.
Terry’s greatest source of pride and joy in his life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Littleton, Colorado, his son Richard “Rick” Campbell (Maricris) of Austin, Texas, his daughter, Lee Ann Smith (Dirk) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, his granddaughter, Audrey Smith, and grandson, Abel Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Gene Campbell, of Madison, Alabama, a niece and two nephews of Madison, Alabama and Pace, Florida, as well as two aunts, Nell Lawson of Crestview, Florida and Jackie Jambor of Panama City, Florida.
At Terry’s request, no services will be held.
