Obituary for Master Sergeant Jimmie Joe Ferguson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Master Sergeant Jimmie Joe Ferguson, who left this world on June 22, 2025. Born on February 26, 1975, in Glendale, Arizona, Jim embraced life with an energetic spirit and a generous heart, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jim's legacy is carried on by his daughter, Emma Rosa Ferguson, and his two beloved dogs, Leon and King. He cherished his family deeply, including his father, William (Trudee) Ferguson, his sisters Stephanie (Jessie) Vencill Jr, Mindee (Steve) Eland, Lori (Jesse) Joyal, and his brother Chris Caltrider. As a proud uncle, he was a guiding light to many: Ryanna, Ty, Myla, Brynlee, Paige (Matt) McMillan, Halee McNiel, Keartysn Artman, Ellissa (Marcy) Grimm, Dominik, Evan, and Riven Joyal. Godparents Lupe Loar and Luis Madrigal both of Arizona.
He was welcomed into the arms of his mother, Patricia S. Ferguson, and stepdad, Alan Grimm, along with other family members who preceded him in death, fostering a strong familial bond that persisted throughout his life.
A graduate of Harbor High School in 1993, Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps the same year. His career was defined by strategic dedication and exceptional service, culminating in his retirement in 2016 as Master Sergeant Jimmie Ferguson. Throughout his military journey, Jim held a variety of significant roles and was recognized for his culinary talents as a chef. He served as a personal chef to the Secretary of Defense and was selected as an enlisted aide to the 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps. His awards, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal, speak volumes of his commitment and contributions.
Beyond his military achievements, Jim was known for his infectious laughter and mischievous spirit. A proud Ohio State Buckeye fan, he thrived on the excitement of football, MMA, and wrestling. Friends and family remember him as a kind-hearted prankster who made gatherings vibrant with his humor and energy.
The celebration of Jimmie's remarkable life will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 1 PM at The American Legion Post 103, located at 1804 West 19th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio. The Marine Corps League as well as The Honor Guard accompanied by Veteran Kathy Wright-Bagpiper, will be performing the Marine Corp Hymm and Amazing Grace along with conducting their special ceremonies alongside Pastor Kenneth Roberts, honoring Jim's courageous service and vibrant spirit.
In honoring Jimmie’s memory, we reflect upon a life well-lived—filled with love, humor, and an unwavering commitment to his family and country. He will be missed profoundly by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and service will forever inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts.
