Louise "Lee" Katz, Ph.D.

Lee Katz passed away recently in Santa Cruz, CA. She was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1933 to Howard and Anna Leeman. Louise lived a long, full life, remaining mentally sharp and deeply present with those around her until the very end. She graced this world for more than 90 remarkable years. In her childhood, Lee fondly recalled grabbing the brass ring on the carousel at Coney Island, heading upstairs to "tar beach" to cool off on the rooftop on hot summer nights, and many stories of growing up with her sister Isabel (also a Ph.D.).  

Lee was a kind, thoughtful, and quietly extraordinary woman. She carried herself with a calm, steady grace that many aspired to, seldom raising her voice or showing frustration. She possessed a rare gift: simply by being herself, she made others feel seen, comfortable, and cared for.

Lee was a trailblazer, earning her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at a time when few women pursued such advanced degrees. While she never sought recognition, her quiet strength, integrity, and intellect shone brightly. She understood the importance of a positive attitude and cherished hearty laughter with family and friends.

Family was paramount to Lee. She treasured time spent with her loved ones, whether enjoying a meal out or lingering in the famous long goodbyes when it was time to depart. She also enjoyed numerous adventures, traveling to France, Austria, Germany, Italy, and Canada. Some of her most memorable journeys included visiting New York and taking a cruise to Alaska with her dear friend Mary.

Lee is survived by her devoted son Ross and his wife Connie, loving daughter Jodi and her husband Eric, grandchildren Emily (Nico), Linda (Matt), Keanu, and great grandson Enzo. She also leaves behind her beloved sister Isabel, nephew Scott, niece Loni and her children Julian and Mak.

Lee's memory will be a source of strength and inspiration for all who were fortunate to know her. She will be dearly missed and heartfully remembered.
