It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Celeste Bunting, who left us on August 8th at the age of 66. She was a beloved friend, mother, daughter, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Celeste was born on June 22,1959, in Monterey, CA. Her parents, Alyce and Jack Keith Oldemeyer, owned and operated Oldemeyer’s Garage in Seaside, CA for 40 years. Her grandfather, Jack W. Oldemeyer, was the first mayor of Seaside, and the City of Seaside’s Oldemeyer Multi-Use Center, which opened in 1980, was named in his honor.
Celeste was known for her kindness and generosity as she touched so many lives with her warm and welcoming spirit. She enjoyed beach days and long walks, but above all, Celeste’s greatest joy in life was her family.
She adored her two daughters, Lexi and Chelsi, and was the best “Ama” to her grandchildren, Paisley “Chick”, Blaine “Beans”, JohnWayne “JW” and Emersyn “Emmy Lou”; bonus grandchildren Rigs and Brenna. She was deeply involved in their lives, attending countless sports games, gymnastic meets, recitals, and school events. She was always their biggest cheerleader, cheering them on with pride and love.
Celeste was an inspiration to her daughters, teaching them what it means to be a great mom and to love fiercely. Her unwavering support, strength, and boundless love set a powerful example for them, and her legacy of love and devotion will continue to guide them throughout their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alyce and Jack Keith Oldemeyer, her grandfather, Jack W. Oldemeyer, and her former father-in-law, Colonel Roger Bunting.
She is survived by her two daughters and grandchildren; Lexi Ellise Bunting (Scott Konen), Paisley Grace and Emersyn Faith; and Chelsi Rae Bunting-Solis (Joe Solis), Blaine Dean Joseph, JohnWayne Maverick, and Joseph Rigs, Brenna Ellise; her sister Marleen Kay Rosien, her niece Shelby Rae, her nephew Mason Keith; her former husband, John Bunting with whom she shared many cherished memories; her mother-in-law, Margaret Bunting, who remained a close friend, and her sister-in-law Janet Bunting, who she held close to her heart.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, located at 555 Canyon Del Rey Blvd, Del Rey Oaks, Ca. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association on Celeste’s behalf.

Mission Mortuary - Seaside
Centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula, Mission Mortuary has been the premier funeral home choice for Monterey and the entire peninsula for decades. Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946, first on Munras Avenue in Monterey and to our current location on Camino El Estero, walking distance to the Pacific Ocean and area cemeteries, in 1952. Despite our long history, we have evolved to meet the changing needs of our families. Our facility includes spaces both large and small. Whether a handful of friends and family or a large crowd, we can accommodate all. As a reflection of our commitment to our diverse region, we offer multicultural funerals....
