Mark Anthony Spears
August 1st, 1956 - August 12th, 2025
Mark Spears passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the age of 69. He was born on August 1, 1956, to his biological parents Jim & Mildred Spears. He was raised by his actual parents, Alva & Mildred (formerly Spears) Summers, from the time he was 4.
Mark was a simple man, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the early age of 10. He was told by doctors he would not live to see his 20s. He decided then that if he was going to have a short life, he was going to live. He enjoyed fast cars, rock music, and beer. He often said he was lucky his father, Pop Alva, was his own personal mechanic. He married his high school sweetheart, Lezlie, and continued their 53-year journey together. In his 20s, his daughter was born. When he reached his 30s, he realized the doctors may not have known exactly what they were talking about. In his 40s, his granddaughter was born, and he said this was one of the best things to ever happen to him. He was proud to be 'promoted' to Papa.
After his early retirement, he added to his hobbies by studying the wildlife around his home in the foothills & being a Papa.
Mark is survived by his wife, Lezlie Spears of Jackson, CA; daughter, Layla (Jason) Griffin; granddaughter, Gabrielle Griffin; brother, Jim Spears; sister, Melody Reposa; brother-in-law, Richard Bottineau; and nieces and nephews.
At Mark's request, there will be no services at this time. If you would like to make a contribution in Mark's name, please send it to: Tri-County Wildlife, 12360 Trade Center Drive, Jackson, CA 95642, or A-PAL Humane Society, 12360 Trade Center Drive, Jackson, CA 95642.
