Melanie M. Snyder
September 29th, 1937 - August 31st, 2025
Melanie M. Snyder, 87 of Mantua, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 in Berlin under the care of Camden County Bayada Hospice. She was born on September 29, 1937 in Babylon, NY to the late John N. Heim and Mildred R. Zukowsky (nee Ellis). Mel grew up on Long Island and in Philadelphia before finally moving to Mantua in 1959.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Albert. Surviving are her sister, Gail Ambrose (Royse City, TX), and her five children: son Mike and his wife Dianne of Holly Springs, NC; daughter Debra Lee of Mantua; son Paul and his wife Cathy of Turnersville; son Glenn of Berlin; and son Doug and his wife Tracy of Henrico, NC.
She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and by 24 great-grandchildren. In addition to Al, Mel was predeceased by her father John and mother Mildred, her 3 brothers, and by her son, Ken.
Mel was a proud graduate of St Hubert’s HS in Philadelphia. Upon graduation and marriage, she went to work as a secretary in Philly. Children came quickly and after they were older, she began careers in Avon and Tupperware, becoming managers for both companies. If you said no to her, she would wear you down until you realized she would not leave until you said yes! She was a relentless and successful saleswoman during those years in which many have described her as having, “the gift of gab.”
Mel and Al enjoyed many years enjoying each other’s company visiting family and at the casinos in Atlantic City. Mel will be remembered for many things, but mostly for her devotion to her husband, Al. They celebrated their 50th year of marriage in July 2005.
In the early years, she helped out at the polls during election time, was a volunteer at Centre City Elementary School, was a member of the PTA there, and helped out with both cub scouts and girl scouts.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Visiting Angels and at Camden County Bayada Hospice for their support and care during the end of Mel’s life.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00AM on Monday, September 8th at the McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME (Woodbury Location), 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ 08096. Funeral Service at 11:00AM. Interment will be private by the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Bayada Hospice - Camden County, 4300 Haddonfield Rd, Suite 2A, Pennsauken, NJ 08109 or Visiting Angels, 397 Bridgeton Pike, Mantua NJ 08051.

McGuinness Funeral Homes - Woodbury
We have served the Woodbury community since 1951, when our founder, James A. McGuinness, opened our first funeral home. He knew the importance of families having a trustworthy, local funeral home to help them memorialize their lost loved ones and navigate grief. Our beautiful funeral home in Woodbury was originally built in the late 1700s, and has since been rebuilt to honor its original charm and comfortable, warm feel. Once you walk through our doors, you become family....
