Clarissa Novak, a beloved wife, stepmother, aunt and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in Olympia, Washington, on September 12, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on February 15, 1947, in Olympia, she lived a life filled with love, friendships, and remarkable contributions to her community. Clarissa was educated at Elma High School and furthered her studies at Olympia Business College, where she laid the foundation for a successful career. Her professionalism and keen intellect led her to serve as an Executive Secretary for the Washington State Department of Transportation and for Graves and Associates in Tacoma, Washington. Throughout her career, she was known for her dedication, loyalty, and kindness—traits that endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
On August 19, 1989, Clarissa married the love of her life, Robert Novak. Together, they shared countless adventures, creating memories that will be cherished by their family and friends. Clarissa’s warmth and outgoing personality illuminated the lives of everyone she met. She was a truly special person, who approached each day with joy and enthusiasm and a substantial amount of coffee. Her interests were as diverse as her friendships; she loved to travel, golf, and cross-country ski. Clarissa found peace and joy in nature, nurturing her green thumb through gardening and her passion for flowers. She genuinely enjoyed sharing these interests with others, often bringing people together for memorable experiences.
Clarissa is sorely missed by her husband, Robert Novak, and her stepdaughter, Kelly Norton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert B. and Mary James, her brother William E James, her brother Robert L. James, and her sister Cheryl McCartney. The family invites all who knew and loved Clarissa to join them for a ceremony to honor her life at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North Street, Tumwater, Washington, on September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society of Washington State in her memory, a testament to her spirit and legacy of generosity. Clarissa Novak’s life touched many, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and that loved her. May she rest in peace.
