Stanley Lyle Heath, Jr, 78, passed away September 16, 2025, in Thornton, Colorado. He was born February 8, 1947, in Garrett, Indiana to Dora Snyder Heath and Stanley Lyle Heath, Sr.

 

He was Valedictorian of Hamilton High School (Indiana) in 1965. With a ROTC scholarship he graduated from Purdue University in 1969 majoring in Math and minoring in Physics, also earning a teaching certification. Later he obtained a Master of Science degree in Education from Purdue University.

 

He was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery officer in the United States Army and entered active duty in 1970 serving in Fort Bliss, TX and Nuremberg, Germany. His math skills served him as an Army Finance officer. From 1973-79, he taught middle school math and was head basketball coach at Shawnee Junior High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, while remaining in the Army Reserve. In 1980, he returned to active duty with the US Army.

 

On July 16, 1983, at the Presidio of San Francisco, California, he married Luann Jones originally from Los Angeles, CA.

 

He served in California, Georgia, Egypt, Somalia, and the Pentagon, retiring in 1995 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He received the Hammer Award presented by Vice-President Al Gore for excellence in acquisition reform.

 

As a Project Management Professional (PMP), a Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst (CCEA), and a Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), he held positions as a consultant with various firms in the Washington DC area, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis before ultimately retiring in 2015.

 

Stan put his sharp, analytical brain to work on spreadsheets and budgets, but also enjoyed traveling, learning, and his hometown of Hamilton, Indiana.

 

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Hamilton, Indiana.

 

Surviving are his wife MAJ (Ret) Luann Jones Heath and their children Amy Michelle Heath (Max Kump) of Avon, Indiana and Ashley Elizabeth Hartley (Andrew) of Blaine, Minnesota. He is also survived by a former spouse, Denise Porter Dunn of St. Augustine, Florida and their children Jon Todd Heath

(Elizabeth) of Dublin, Ohio, and Robin Heath King of Columbus, Georgia. Seven grandchildren survive him as do his sisters Sharon Sieben of Mesa, Arizona and Madilyn Tratechaud of San Marcos, California.

 

A memorial graveside service will be held in Hamilton, Indiana at a later date.
