Gary Burke Kelly
July 30th, 1938 - September 15th, 2025
Gary Burke Kelly, beloved brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 15, 2025, in Broomfield, Colorado. He was 87 years old.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gary grew up loving the outdoors and often spoke of the carefree summer days spent with his older brother at the lake.
Gary is survived by his children, daughter Cathryn N. Lamonski, and his sons, Andrew C. Kelly and Timothy A. Kelly. Also, grandchildren James Dewey Brown, Miranda Lamonski, Matthew Lamonski (Kristen Bredeson-Lamonski), Jason Kelly, Jessica Brothers, Mindy Pauni, Candice Choin, Lindsay Brunn (Cody Brunn), and Zoe Kelly. He also leaves behind his sister Julie A. Kelly (Renee Van Gorp), Kathleen Moran-Sexton (Mark Sexton), and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis (Tillman-Kelly) Moran; his stepfather, Allen A. Moran; his father, Robert B. Kelly, his wife, Mary J. Kelly; his brothers, Bruce L. Kelly and James A. Moran (Collette Moran).
As a young man in 1955, Gary enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado. Not long after enlistment, he married Phoebe Sain. As a newly married couple, they were stationed in Montana, and then Japan, and eventually settled in California, where he began a career at the phone company. Gary liked to try new things and embarked on several new careers, including a horse farrier. Eventually, the family moved back to Colorado, where Gary worked in the oil and gas industry until retirement. After retirement, Gary moved to Broomfield, Colorado, where he has lived for the past 25 years. In his late 60s, Gary became an avid bike rider and could be seen riding the streets of Broomfield on most days. Sadly, he had to give up his beloved bicycles at the age of 85!
A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on October 8, 2025, at 10 am
