Lola Anderson/Blackwell Obituary Lola Anderson Blackwell, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 16, 2025. Born in Seoul, Korea in 1938 to missionary parents Wallace and Hermie Anderson, Lola entered a ready-made family with two older sisters, ages 10 and 17. When she was two, the family left Korea for a new mission assignment in Guatemala, where Lola spent her childhood and teen years alongside her younger brother, Al. Every four years, she cherished visits with extended family during her parents’ furloughs in the United States. Lola earned her B.A. in Sociology from Whitworth College, where she met and married Stanley Blackwell. Their children, Marc, Stan, and Staley were born over four years along their way to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1966. There, Covenant Presbyterian Church became her spiritual home for nearly six decades. She served faithfully in numerous roles: Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Elder, Chair of Adult Christian Education, Commissioner to Presbytery, Chair of the Lay Pastor Committee, and member of a Pastor Nominating Committee. Professionally, Lola dedicated 29 years to the New Mexico Department of Human Services in the Income Support Division, where she worked her way up to supervisor and was known for her compassion, diligence, and integrity. Earlier in her career, she served as a teacher’s aide for Albuquerque Public Schools. After 53 years of marriage, Stan passed away in 2012 following long-term complications from a stroke. In 2017, Lola married longtime friend Ken Wegman, and together they shared eight joyful years of companionship and travel. She was deeply grateful for the love and acceptance she received from Ken’s daughters and grandchildren. Lola’s life was grounded in faith and family. She will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering belief in “doing the right thing for humans,” her joyful energy, her poems, her radiant smile, and her endless lists. Friends lovingly called her “the Energizer Bunny” and “the road warrior of the first and highest order”—we jokingly would say she was known to drive to California just to have dinner with her sister and turn around the next day. Her favorite pastimes included playing Bridge and Scrabble with friends, reading mysteries, traveling with Ken, attending family game nights, working in her puzzle books, and the infamous story of “petting” a burro. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Hermie Anderson; husband, Stanley Blackwell; son, Stanley Blackwell Jr.; sisters, Shirley Latham and Phyllis Thornburg; an unborn child; and great-grandson, Mason Aries. She is survived by her husband, Ken Wegman; children, Marcus Blackwell and Staley

Blackwell Seidler; stepdaughters, Susan Wegman (Willie) and Beth Clingman (Carl); brother and sister-in-law, Al and Carliene Anderson; grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
