Mementos

Mr. Paolo Dimiziani passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of October 5th, 2025, in Boulder, Colorado.

Paolo, the youngest of three children, was born in 1939 in Rome, in the area known as Prati, near the Vatican. He became an avid motorcyclist at the early age of 13, and was a champion rower, before serving in the Italian military as an officer.

In November of 1963, Paolo and Sylvia married in Campidoglio, Rome, after which they moved to Southern California where Paolo pursued his undergraduate degree in Economics at UCLA. He then earned his MBA at the University of Buffalo and started his career in marketing for toy companies such as Marx and Fisher-Price. His career eventually moved Paolo and his family over to the United Kingdom, where they lived for about 5 years.

Upon the family’s return to the USA, Paolo moved into academia, teaching at various institutions like Niagara University and Elmira College, and also abroad, at the American University of Paris and John Cabot University in Rome. During this period he also consulted for various businesses, including Lionel Trains.

After their retirement, Paolo and Sylvia moved back to Southern California, which always held a dear place in Paolo’s heart (“It never rains in California”), and where he was able to continue his many passions, like motorcycling, playing tennis, bicycling, and engaging in other outdoor activities. He and Sylvia remained there for almost 20 years, before moving closer to their eldest daughter in Boulder, Colorado, just a few years ago.

Paolo will forever be remembered as an adventurous and curious man, a world-traveller, a wine connoisseur, a captivating story-teller, an art-lover, a fanatical motorcyclist, an epic martini-maker, and an outdoorsman with a deep respect for nature.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia, his daughters, Vanessa and Alexandra (Pip), and his four grandchildren— Mia, Giovanna, Beren, and Zelie.
