Robert Owen Bate
May 28th, 1937 - October 15th, 2025
Robert Owen Bate, 88, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Puyallup, Washington. Born on May 28, 1937, in Gridley, California, Robert lived a life marked by service, devotion, and a spirited sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Robert served his country with distinction for 20 years. His military career spanned both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, reflecting his deep commitment to duty and patriotism. Following his honorable service, he pursued higher education and earned a master’s degree in social work from the University of Northern Colorado.
Robert dedicated over two decades of his professional life to the Department of Social Services in Denver, Colorado. In this role, he worked tirelessly to support individuals and families in need, embodying compassion and integrity throughout his career.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Robert was a devoted and faithful participant in his congregation. His faith was a guiding force in his life and provided him with strength through times of joy and sorrow alike.
Those who knew Robert will remember him as whimsical and full of character. He had an uncontainable love for singing—often breaking into song without warning or hesitation—bringing smiles to those around him with his unabashed joy.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Jean Bate. He missed her terribly after her passing and often spoke with anticipation about their reunion in heaven.
He is survived in death by his children: sons Lyle Bate and Ross Bate; daughters Sarah Larsen, Rhiannon Roundtree and his 14 grandchildren. His legacy lives on through them and through all who were touched by his kindness and vibrant personality.
May Robert’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and may he find peace reunited with Patricia once more. A Graveside Service will be held on November 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Woodbine Cemetery 2323 9th St. SW Puyallup, WA 98373.
