Mrs. Martha "Marty" B. Lathers, age 93, of Amsterdam, NY passed peacefully into her Savior’s loving arms on October 26, 2025. Born October 17, 1932 in Cambridge, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore T. and Florence (Towner) Buckley. Marty was a 1951 graduate of Cambridge High School and then graduated from Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY in 1955 with a BA in Christian Education.

Marty was a born teacher and spent her entire life instructing, from teaching water ballet at Hedges Lake in Cambridge to teaching kindergarten at Fonda-Fultonville Central School to teaching many kids in Glen to swim at Anderson’s Pond. Hundreds of children, as well as some adults, knew the joy of learning to play the piano in her home as she patiently and encouragingly guided their progress.

Marty loved people! Her family and friends were her treasures. She was a Mary Kay consultant for many years, but she never considered it a job. It was just one more way to have fun with friends!

Marty was a devoted member of the Glen Reformed Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Junior Choir Director, and Senior Choir member. She was one of the founding members of the Amsterdam Christian Women's Club, for which she served as Chairperson for many years.

On July 9, 1955 she was united in marriage to DeVere S. Lathers who passed away August 17, 2005. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Towner and William Buckley, and her sister, Gulielma Hendrickson.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving family including her daughters, Virginia L. (David) Baker of Amsterdam and Linda L. (Robert) Wszolek of Glen; her son, James D. (Claudia) Lathers of Johnstown; five grandchildren, Jonathan (Nicole) Baker, Ashlee (Shawn) Palandro, Jarrod (Andrea) Baker, Merilee (Michael) Arbige, and Mitchell (Samantha) Wszolek; eight great grandchildren, Theodore and Harrison Baker, Alessandra and Mac Palandro, Evelyn Baker, Magdelaina and Matteo Arbige, and Elaine Louise Wszolek; her sister-in-law, Audrey Hammond; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Glen Reformed Church, 1526 State Highway 161, Fultonville (Main St, Glen) with the Rev. Thomas Flander officiating and Pastor Shawn Palandro offering the eulogy. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville.

Memorial contributions in Marty’s memory may be made to the Glen Reformed Church, 1526 State Highway 161, Fultonville, NY 12072.
