December 20th, 1942 - October 6th, 2025
**Obituary for Benjiman "Ben" Lorence Van Wormer**
Benjiman Lorence Van Wormer, born on December 20, 1942, in Sparta, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on October 6, 2025, in Shelton, Washington. Ben was known by his middle name as a child, while family called him "Son" or "Sonny". He took the nickname "Ben" while in the United States Air Force. He was a beloved husband, father, and cherished community member who embraced life with unwavering dedication to his family and passions.
Benjiman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delcie Leona Bussing Van Wormer, with whom he shared 41 wonderful years. He is survived by his two sons, Lonnie Van Wormer of Spokane, Washington, and Chuck Van Wormer of Shelton, Washington, who fondly remember their father's love and guidance. He also leaves behind his brothers Henry and Ronald, as well as his sisters Edna, Caralyn, and Jane. Sonny was preceded in death by his sisters Veronica and Bernice.
Ben's professional life was marked by hard work and commitment. He spent 33 years as a Union Iron Worker, contributing to many structures from Seattle, WA to Houston, TX that still stand today. He also took pride as a truck owner and operator for Mayflower for 4 years in the 1970s and owned a small logging operation in the mid-1980s. His dedication extended beyond the workforce, having served in the United States Air Force in Nebraska and Guam, a testament to his character and sense of duty.
In addition to his career, Ben had a deep love for music and community. He was a proud member of the Old Time Fiddlers in Shelton, where his talents as a singer and guitarist brought joy to many. He was also one of the founding members of The Northwest Harness Company, sharing his passion with fellow musicians and friends.
Ben's generous spirit and warm personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is remembered for his vitality and the melodies he brought into the world.
Ben will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Delcie, at Floral Hills in Lynnwood, Washington.
