Douglas Lauren Lang, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025.  Born on November 26, 1941, Doug grew up in Amityville, N.Y., where he formed lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life.  Doug graduated from Amityville Memorial H.S. in 1959.  He joined the U.S. Navy later that year and served on a submarine based out of Hawaii, for 4 years.  After the Navy he attended and graduated from Suffolk Community College where he met his future wife, Mary Jane McLaughlin.  They married in 1967 in Virgina.  In 1968 he returned to Amityville to take over Lang’s Shoe Store from his parents, Jerome and Hannah Lang. He ran the business with his wife Mary until their retirement in 2001.  In total, Lang’s Shoe Store served families in the Amityville area for over 65 years with ‘Jerry and Hank’ starting the business in 1937.  He was known to everyone as ‘SHOEKING’, and was a pillar in the Amityville community.  He was very active in the Kiwanis Club and was a past President of Amityville Chamber of Commerce.

‘Dougie’ was the devoted husband of Mary Jane for over 58 wonderful years, the proud father of two daughters:  Beth Lang (and her significant other, Gary Schmitt) and Amy and Kevin DuTot and the adored “Pa” to his grandchildren, Jackie and Tommy.  He is survived by his older brother Kenneth Lang (his wife Marilyn) still living in Amityville, NY and his younger brother Paul (his wife Stephanie) living in Lakewood Ranch, FL. He is also survived by 2 generations of nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Doug will remember his larger than life personality, booming voice, caring heart and magnificent grin! He was truly the life of every party and had a gift for making everyone around him feel seen and valued. Doug’s warmth, humor and genuine kindness left an impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His love for family and friends was unwavering, and the memories he created will continue to bring smiles and laughter to those he leaves behind.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Long Island next summer. (Date to be determined) In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in his name to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.  (Doug was a cancer survivor of Multiple Myeloma which was in remission.)  They also ask that you share a story, a laugh, a toast or a special “Doug saying” (Pa-ism) as he had many so that we can all remember these special times.  Please add these directly to the Doug Lang link below and share your tributes about Dougie.  https://photos.app.goo.gl/bWAXEPvLpp6SwCfk7
