Patricia Smith Ehlers

May 15, 1947 – November 5, 2025

Patricia “Pat” Smith Ehlers, 78, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025. She was born on May 15, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia.

Pat attended Armstrong State University, where she met the love of her life, John (Bud) Ehlers. They married in 1970 and built a beautiful life together on Hilton Head Island filled with family, hard work, and shared dreams.

Early in her career, Pat worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, where she refined her architectural drafting skills. She later spent more than 20 years working as an integral part of Kermit Huggins Architecture and Design.

A devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend, Pat’s greatest joy was her family. She loved cruising, gathering with loved ones, and watching her grandchildren grow. Her warmth, humor, and compassion will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Pat was preceded in death by her father, Virgil Smith; her husband, John W. Ehlers; and her brother, Delma Smith. She is survived by her mother, Mary Lee Smith; brother, Eugene Smith; sons John (Benjie) Ehlers (Leslie) and Chad Ehlers (Theresa); and her beloved grandchildren: Kaylee, Noah, Zayda, Johnathan, Jasmine, and Sawyer.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Island Funeral Home on Hilton Head Island. Pat will be laid to rest at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah on Sunday, November 9, at 10:00AM

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) in support of pancreatic cancer research and awareness.
