Jon Kehn entered the world on October 5, 1961, in Greeley, Colorado. His family soon relocated to Tacoma, Washington, which would become his lifelong home. Jon attended Tacoma Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1980. Shortly after, he began a career in construction with Western Builders.

While attending a friend’s wedding reception in November 1983, Jon met Vickie Evans — the beginning of a love story that would span 42 years. Jon and Vickie were married on July 9, 1988. Years later, in a love letter to Vickie, Jon fondly recalled saying to himself, “That girl is beautiful,” when he first saw her back in ’83.

In 1989, Jon partnered with builder Jim Kowalchuk, marking the start of a long and successful career with Kowalchuk Construction. He was an exceptional craftsman, known for his meticulous remodels and homes that reflected his superior workmanship. From 1991 to 1992, Jon spent countless evenings and weekends building a dream home overlooking the Puyallup Valley for himself and his new wife. This home, filled with memories, continues to welcome family and friends to this day.

Jon was both a fan and a participant in many sports — basketball, baseball, golf, and skiing — and he was always ready for a game of poker. He and Vickie enjoyed boating and traveling, with Mexico becoming a frequent and favorite destination.

In 1995, Jon took on his most cherished role as a father when he and Vickie welcomed their son, Bryce. With the arrival of daughter Chloe in 1998, the family he adored was complete. He was a hands-on dad involved in every aspect of Bryce and Chloe’s lives.

In 2001, Jon was one of a trio of friends who purchased Spud’s Pizza Parlor & Trophy Room, along with the surrounding property. During these busy years, he was an avid runner, participating annually in the Sound to Narrows race and completing the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon in June 2006.

In 2009, Jon received a shocking and unexpected diagnosis of a rare autoimmune disease that attacked his lungs. While this slowed him physically, his devotion as a husband and father never wavered. What he initially hoped would be five more years became a courageous 17-year fight. Through it all, Jon remained a steadfast source of love, support, and wisdom for his family. He guided Bryce and Chloe into adulthood with patience and pride, always eager to share their accomplishments. One of his greatest joys was attending Bryce and Bree’s wedding in July 2019 — a moment he treasured deeply, and which would become his final outing.

Jon’s strength and determination allowed him to stay with his loved ones far longer than anyone thought possible. A true fighter to the end, Jon passed peacefully into heaven on October 23, surrounded by those he loved most — Vickie, Bryce, Chloe, and Bree.

Jon was preceded in death by his father, David Kehn, and one brother and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Vickie; his children, Bryce (Bree) and Chloe; his mother, Elizabeth Kehn; three brothers; and many dear friends. Jon’s life, legacy, and extraordinary strength will be celebrated on Sunday, December 7th at 1:00 pm at Community of Christ Church, 31720 116th Ave. S.E. Auburn, WA, 98092.
