Fredy “Papa” Ancheta Martinez (81) was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He passed away peacefully in the morning of November 5, 2025 surrounded by his immediate family.
He was born on December 13, 1943 in Rosales, Philippines. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from the Philippine College of Criminology and went on to proudly serve in the Philippine Constabulary Army. A dual citizen of both the United States and the Philippines, he spent the last 15 years calling the Phoenix valley area home while also enjoying time in the Philippines.
Together for more than 60 years and married for 52, Fredy shared a deep and unwavering partnership with his wife, Lorie Martinez. She was his best friend, and together they built a life filled with loyalty, laughter, and enduring love. Their bond was the anchor of their family and a reflection of the commitment they carried throughout their marriage.
Fredy - who was affectionately called “Papa” by his entire family - built a life centered around family, humor, and simple joys. During his years in Iowa, he and his wife, Lorie, owned Manila Grill, an award-winning Filipino restaurant that became a beloved gathering place in their community. He loved fishing, gardening, reading, watching sports, and sharing stories that brought smiles to everyone around him.
He is survived by his wife, Lorie Martinez (82); his sons, Galileo Martinez (51) and Galloway Martinez (49); his daughter, Faith Martinez (44); his grandchildren, Alisaunde Martinez (22), Dakota Martinez (13), and Liam Brown-Martinez (23 months); his sister, Mariefel Singson (68); and his brothers, Rogelio Martinez (85), and Amante Martinez (75).
Fredy will be dearly missed by his family, loved ones, and friends who will forever carry his memory with them. His legacy is one of faith, laughter, and unwavering love - a reminder that even in grief, there is grace, and in love, eternal life.
