Raoul David Bowden of Venice, Florida passed away on November 10, 2025. He was the first born of Raoul & Eva Bowden on October 12, 1929 in Crosby, MN. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in June 1947 and then joined the United States Marine Corp where he served from October 1951 to October 1953 and in Korea from May 1952-1953. He was a Sgt. In the 1st Armored AMPH BN Kimpo Prov Rgt FMF Pacific.
Raoul graduated from St. Cloud State College in 1956 with a B.S. and the University of Minnesota where he earned Master credits in history. He was a teacher at Hazel Park Junior High in St. Paul from 1956-1987 where he taught English and Social Studies. Raoul was active in Federation of Teachers AFT MFT. Served as President, Treasurer and Board Member for the Teacher Federal Credit Union from 1973-1997.
He retired to Venice, Florida in 1997 and Livermore, Colorado in 2001, where the Glacier View Fire destroyed the log home in 2013. History influenced his life, and he enjoyed traveling to small towns on weekends in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida to enjoy their history and culture.
Raoul is survived by his wife, Gladys; a son, Jack Raoul Bowden; a daughter, Renee Marie Woldt; a granddaughter, Jessica Shanteler and four great-grandchildren.
A service with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 1:30PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Crosby-Ironton High School Scholarship Fund, 711 Poplar Street, Crosby, MN 56441. Farley Funeral Home in Venice is handling the arrangements.
