Joanne L. Nelson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at the age of 91.
Joanne was the devoted wife of Kenneth George Nelson for 72 wonderful years. Together, they shared a life grounded in faith, love, and family.
She is survived by her children Kevin Nelson (Ann Johnson) of Spring Green, WI; Jocelyn Nelson (Bruce Palmer) of Poulsbo, WA; and David Nelson (Joan Nelson) of DeForest, WI. Sister Marion Streich Jefferson and Brother John (Lois) LaDien. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lynn Nelson (1955).
Joanne was the proud grandmother of Justin and (Nicole) Nodolf of Poulsbo, WA; Amanda and (Nick) Abney of Red Wing MN; Elizabeth and (Jon) Bagwell of Poulsbo, WA; Ryan and (Stephanie) Nelson of Woodbury, MN; and Anna Nelson of DeForest, WI. She was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
A woman of deep faith and compassion, Joanne was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She dedicated many years as a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul, loved reading to children at the Catholic school, and spent much of her life caring for residents at St. Coletta’s. Her kindness, patience, and generous spirit touched countless lives.
Joanne’s warmth, faith, and love will be remembered always by her family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Reena Assisted Living and the angels from Rainbow Hospice for their attentive care.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 20th from 9:00 AM -11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 324 E North Street, Jefferson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at the church, followed by graveside services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home, 900 W Racine Street, Jefferson, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic School in care of Joanne Nelson.
