Pastor Ralph Edward Wiechmann, a devoted servant of Christ and faithful shepherd of His flock, entered his eternal rest in the Lord on October 26, 2025, at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Virginia.

Born in Ellensburg, Washington, on October 13, 1936 to Pastor H. H. and Ruth (Krahn) Wiechmann, Ralph was raised in a home deeply rooted in the faith of Christ. Growing up alongside his brother Gerry and sister Ruthmary, he was nurtured in the Word and called by God to the pastoral ministry at an early age.

Ralph received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, and was ordained on June 3, 1962. Shortly thereafter, he was commissioned as Missionary-at-Large to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in West Springfield, Virginia, beginning his ministry there on July 29, 1962, and preaching his first sermon to the congregation on August 5, 1962.

He served faithfully for many years alongside his father, Pastor H. H. Wiechmann, in a rare father-son co-pastoral ministry that became a cherished part of the Prince of Peace story. Throughout his decades of service, Pastor Wiechmann remained steadfastly focused on proclaiming the Gospel, administering the Sacraments, and nurturing new mission congregations throughout the Washington, D.C. area. His zeal for Christ’s Church was evident not only in his preaching and teaching but also in his tireless efforts to see the Word of God take root in new communities.

In the late 1960s, Pastor Wiechmann also volunteered aboard the Medical Ship Hope, serving others in North Africa through acts of Christian compassion and mercy. Later, as Circuit Counselor, he faithfully supported and encouraged his fellow pastors, offering wisdom and gentle leadership grounded in Scripture and prayer.

On January 1, 2003, he began his service as Associate Pastor at Our Savior’s Way Lutheran Church in Ashburn, Virginia, where he continued to minister with humility and joy until being honored as Pastor Emeritus. In recognition of his lifelong faithfulness, he received the Servant of Christ Award in 2022, a fitting tribute to one who devoted his entire life to the Gospel.

Pastor Wiechmann is lovingly remembered by his wife Eunice, his brother Gerry, his three children Krista, David, and Matthew, and his five grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Katie, Emily, and Michael. They were all a great joy and blessing to him.

Throughout his life, Pastor Wiechmann held close the promise of his favorite verse from Revelation 2:10: “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”  He often reminded others with a favorite saying of his own: “The EASIER path becomes the story of EASTER when the cross replaces the ‘I’ in our lives.”

We give thanks to God for the faithful life and ministry of His servant Ralph, who now rests in the peace and glory of Christ his Lord. May all who mourn his passing take comfort in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
