Joseph E. Akers
January 30th, 1967 - November 14th, 2025
Joseph E. Akers, 58, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, at his home in Peyton, Colorado, surrounded by his loving brother, sister-in-law, and the embrace of additional caring family members. Born on January 30, 1967, Joseph lived a life defined by generosity, dedication, and an unwavering love for those around him.
A gifted chef, Joseph shared his talents both at sea and on land, preparing delicious meals for cruise lines as well as for restaurants throughout the community. His work in construction and countless other trades reflected his resourcefulness and his willingness to lend a hand wherever he was needed. Truly a jack of all trades, Joseph brought heart and craftsmanship to everything he touched.
A proud Coloradan, Joseph felt most at home in the outdoors. He loved exploring mountain trails, breathing in the fresh air, and appreciating the beauty of the landscape around him. Time with family was his greatest joy, and he was known for his steadfast devotion, always putting the needs of others before his own. Joseph would do anything for the people he loved, and his kindness made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Joseph was a Christian who held his faith close, even though he was not a member of a specific church. His gentle spirit, compassion, and integrity reflected his beliefs in his everyday life.
He is survived by his parents, Paul Akers and Mary Cox; his brothers Robert Burkett, Jeb Burkett, and Dean Burkett; sisters-in-law Kandice Lackey and Susan Burkett; nieces Kimberly Burkett, Brittany Arnold, Jennifer Reed, Michelle Burkett, Amanda Burkett, and Sheryle Burkett; and nephew Mike Burkett. Joseph’s love for his family will continue to live on through each of them.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Please check back for additional details regarding the location.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to their GoFundMe campaign to help with Joseph’s service expenses. Your support is deeply appreciated.
